So you guys can know what I did:
1. Check out the pic of the original position
2. I did not line up markings on crankshaft, TDC stuff- none of that
3. I removed the old distributor and hold down bolt.
4. Turned the shaft and it rotated as well as the new, no noise.
5. Put in the new one, this time, I turned the shaft to 11 o'clock (don't remember where the shaft was when I pulled it out, only
the position of the rotor-see pic), inserted at 1 o'clock, and now the rotor was a little after 5 as opposed to 10-11)
6. Put things back together and car wouldn't start.
7. Undid everything, put in the old distributor the way it was originally.
8. Still won't start.

Where was my mistake? Did I throw the timing completely off by changing the distributor positions w/o adjusting the crank?

Did motor ever turn at all when you tried to start ? If not dist was put back in original position correct ? Here your original pic post another of where is at now. Its very important to not rotate engine until this is confirmed. Worst comees to worst you rotate crank shaft and line up mark to zero and install. In your PM to me you said everythings dead battery wise at this point thats a blesssing motor is still as it was .

First time I put it in I did not do it the same way. I changed the direction of the rotor. After no start, jeep dark, no nothing, no lights. I took out dizzy and put it back the way it was when I originally took it out (the best way I could).

Either borrow a charger or remove battery and get it charged. If you borrow one disconnect battery while charging.

Ok, just took the battery off, dropping off at AA to get charged. Noticed the wires on the accessory terminal came out. Still taking to get charged.

Here's the before and after pics. Do I need to reposition again, if so, I don't know where to start, since the rotor shifts when inserted.

Angles are not the same in ovals . Appears to be 1 tooth off need to move clockwise .

Thanks but some of the jargon is really hard to comprehend. I've done a lot on my jeep but I need simplified terms. Also, I can not see the index mark on the crankshaft with or without the fan in the way, ugh, that's why I didn't touch it. Is there anything else I can do with the distributor, I'm about to pull all of my hair out!
