Default stall problem

I have a 94 Jeep Cherokee with a 4.0 and it is a automatic. Jeep starts fine but when you give it gas it bogs down and wants to stall then revs up just fine. After driving it for a wile it stops doing it. What can cause this? TPS?

It could be your TPS or it could be a few other sensors. Are you getting any codes!

If not make sure you are using some good fuel. Change your fuel filter may help and clean the hell out of your throttle body.

I would think that being a OBD generation XJ you would throw sometype of code if you had a sensor going out.

If it was a renix I would check the TPS and the CPS (crankshaft position sensor) they can creat all sorts of weird problems from no start to irratic running and stalls.

Autozone or advance or any parts store has the capabilities to check your codes for FREE.

Renix is the first gen XJ engine made till 91'

You don't have one if yours is a 92+ model.

I just tried the key trick to get the codes and I am getting to codes. one is the battery or computer recently disconnected and the other is throttle position sensor over 4.96v. Does that mean the sensor is junk or is there another issue?

Well I was on my way to auto zone to by a tps when my exhaust came apart so I had to turn around go home get the welder out and weld up my exhaust, then I jump back in the jeep and headed for auto zone. I bought a new tps and put it in and I think that was the problem. The jeep idles better and revs better and so far no boggen down. Thanks to everyone who helped me figure this thing out.

I knew I should not of said anything about the exhaust! LOL!!! I drove the jeep to work and had no problems with it (even the exhaust). It even seems to shift better with the new tps.
