Stalling
I am having a problem with my 1994 XJ stalling out after running for about 10-15 minutes. I have looked over the forums and have changed the following based on similar forum write-ups:
- New crankshaft position sensor
- New camshaft position sensor
- New throttle position sensor
- New coil
- swapped the ASD relay
- new wires
- cleaned all the engine grounds
- cleaned the PCM contacts
- cleaned the distributor cap and rotor
- changed out the battery cables with 1 gauge wire
- no check engine light or diagnostic codes (other than battery disconnected)
- Fuel pressure is within tolerance while the engine is running and right after a stall
I just recently changed out my water pump and thermostat and noticed that the problem got worse. I'm not sure if that's just a coincidence or not...
I know my temp gauge runs a little hot based on a secondary water temp gauge and temps taken with an infrared gun but could a faulty temp sensor on the t-stat housing cause this issue? I also have noticed that my electric fan never turns on even though my engine temps get above 240 when I am running it hard. The fan will turn on when I turn the AC on though so I know it's getting power and it works...
Thanks!

The only thing you missed was the Idle Air Control motor. Will the engine keep running if you keep your foot on the gas?

It will run for about 10 seconds if I keep the engine at 2500-3000 RPM but it will eventually stall. Sometimes I have to push the throttle down quite a bit to get it started and then it will only run for a couple seconds. It will also stall at highway speeds, with the tach jumping around between 100-500 RPM before it finally shuts off.

You may have a PCM problem, but look over the engine wire harness for any damage or weirdness before popping for a new PCM.

I have the wiring diagrams printed out so I'm going to start shooting wires tomorrow when I get off work. Hopefully I can find a bad wire and just replace a wire or two before spending more money on a PCM.

I am having the same problem. I have the odd ball 96 model with the regulator in the tank. I replaced the fuel pump twice, fuel regulator, fuel filter, crankshaft sensor, cam sensor, battery, alt., cat converter, o2 sensor. I read that jeeps don't like aftermarket sensors so I went out and bought a mopar crankshaft sensor. It didn't help. It seems to stall more when the fuel is over half a tank. I've even tried unhook in the idle sensor and the idle doesn't change. The jeep idles and runs great for about 15 to 30 minutes and then it dies. You can give it gas and nothing. I pull over and turn it over. Nothing. I was told that it loses spark. I can put it in park and it will start. It will hesitate randomly. I'm running out of money on this thing! Please help!
