Was stalling after adding oil...but not anymore (?)
I was shocked to see that my 98 KJ Sport 2WD had low oil because I do not drive it that much and it doesn't burn much oil. Anyway, it had about half an inch of oil showing on the dipstick.
I added, one, two, and finally, a THIRD quart of oil to top it up...but then it started idling low and would stall on me. I didn't have the time or money to deal with it and I only drive the thing about 2 miles per day. And after a week it runs without stalling. Though it does seem to idle low.
It runs about 1000, 1200 when I start. And after a few minutes gets as low as 800 when breaking. But it does not stall.
Oil pressure stays at 40 and above.
Any ideas about what was causing the stalling before and what I need to do now? Not going to work on it myself, likely taking it to a mechanic if need be.
Thanks!
Ryan

You may have over filled it.
I know, it's a stupid question. But I have to ask it.
Did you check the level with the engine off and on a level surface?

Thanks! That is a perfectly rational question.
Engine off, yes. And it seemed to be on a level surface, but now I am having my doubts. I am going to see if I can siphon some oil out of the crankshaft and see if she runs better.

If it's in the hash marks on the dip stick, don't siphon any out. I just find it odd that it was indicating on the stick and you STILL had to add 3 qts.
