Default Starter issues

Well I've searched but couldn't find a post with a problem similar to mine.

Two days ago I go to start my Jeep and it wouldn't turn over. All electronics worked fine and even the starter solenoid would fire but the starter would not turn. Well, thinking that the starter was bad I went and got a new one. Put that one in and it fired right up. I drove it all day yesterday with no issues. It was started around 5 times.

Then, this morning, the same issue has come up. I turn the key, the starter solenoid clicks but the starter doesn't turn. The battery is good and all fuses and relays are fine. While playing around with it and trying to figure the problem out I stumbled upon this...

I disconnected the battery, then reconnected it and BAM...she fired right up. I shut her down and restarted it about 5 more times with now issues. So, my question is this, what would cause this issue? I'm thinking a bad connection at the battery terminal so I will be replacing that tomorrow and see what happens. I'm just looking for more input and am open to all ideas.

Thanks,
Adam

Classic bad connection problem. Also, if there is a lot of crud on the pos cable and the insulation is split or swelled near the battery terminal, that will cause a voltage drop and resistance. The electricity actually flows on the outside of the strands of the cable, not through the copper. That junk will cause a lot of charging and starting problems.

Agreed thats classic corroded connection, but the vehicles power system is DC, not AC. AC is the type of power in which the skin effect causes the field to move along the exterior of the conductor. DC goes straight through the middle.

And that's what I thought. I overlooked it because it doesn't look that bad. But, it was obviously bad enough to cause my problems.

Thanks guys,

Adam
