I have a 96 jeep 4x4 laredo 4.0 and it's having issues that I'm not positive on. Sometimes it starts fine and sometimes not at all unless I disconnect battery and take the crank sensor out and put back together. I'm almost positive it is the crank sensor. This last time it gave me issues I took the starter off and cleaned the rusty sticky gunk off the thing I can't remember the name for behind the flywheel that is for the crank sensor I cleaned it and the sensor and put it back together and it started right up and ran great but before I did that it had a problem starting then dying after 5 minutes.... is this the crank sensor going bad?

Sure sounds like it, a new sensor is about $30 from rock auto, I'd give it a try and clean the connector on the jeep with some electrical cleaner before you put it in.

Get a Mopar CPS. The aftermarket brands are hit or miss with a whole lotta "miss". They are subject to thermal failure so it gets hot and stops working then cools off and works again.

It also sounds like you could use a new valve cover gasket and/or oil filter adapter o-rings so you're not leaking oil towards the back of the engine.
