Yes if 96-01 are not all the same, 96-99 are the same and 00-01 are the same.

does the jeep have an alarm system because on my colorado that i had it had an alrm system and theres a switch that would cut off power to the whole truck causing something like what you have not sure if these are the same way but maybe something to look in to

doe's it have spark? are the injectors getting signal? does the fuel pump turn on? does it even crank over? I need to know this stuff.

Is there a reset button anywhere on a Jeep that you have to push if the vehicle took a hit or a very hard bump?
A fuel pump/spark cutoff switch?
My Expedition has one. I have seen them on other cars. Maybe a Jeep, too?

it cranks over but the fuel pump doesnt turn on as well as no spark,,,and ive never driven it,,i got it for cheap after it got stolen and it was justa commuter,,im not sure what happend when it was stolen tho.
the check engine light,check guage light and the fuel light come on

Grey key or black key???
1998 could have SKIM (Sentry Key Immobiliser)... MOPAR anti-theft. It's a pretty damn effective system that has to communicate on the databus with the PCM and compares the key code to the programmed codes and VIN in the PCM.
Is there a light in the cluster that looks like a key with a slash though it???
