starting problem and runs like crap
he other day i went to start my jeep turned it over and it just kept cranking so then i turned the ignition of then back on and it fired right up .now yesterday i was driving and it sarted back firing through the air box for a few seconds then ran fine , the next time i went to start it i would not start i had to get a jump cuz i killed my battery tying to start it and it did finally start but would not run ,if u gave it gas it would start bogging and back firing through the air box ,its done this every time i go to start it now it does seem to run ok after a while of it running like **** , i notice the way to start it is to turn the ignition on a bunch of times while cranking it over for a few seconds and then it will start but if u give it any gas it dies out ,anyone know what the problem could be , i did the code check and i got 12 and 41

We need to know the basics of your Jeep, Like the year, engine size and if it's an auto or manual trans.
Like moglide said start by checking the fuel pressure at the fuel rail with a mechanical pressure gauge. For your year you should have 39psi plus or minus 5psi. Also make sure that you have a good blue spark. After you check those things let us know what you find and we can go from there.

take it to autozone or o'reillys! ask them to check the codes and maybe they can check your fuel pressure for you with their loaner test kit..its all free!..they will want you to pay a deposit for test kit if you take it home but you get it all back..maybe they wont even charge you if you check it in the parking lot lol

The reason its working after flicking the ignition a few times is because every time you flick it, the fuel pump pumps fuel to the fuel rail. You may not be getting enough pressure until you pump it a few times. listen closely when you turn the ignition you can hear the pump actuating. Mine did the same thing. I replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter and it ran fine.

check the fuel pressure. i just went through the same thing with my xj. even though i could hear the fuel pump running and it sounded normal it was only producing about 8psi and that would drop to zero very quickly. my new pump should be here today along with some other goodies.

i just pulled my fuel pump and sure enough both hose clamps were loose, the rubber elbow hose was shot and the screen was rotted. when your jeep starts running like crap it only takes a few minutes to check this.

I think factory pumps hoses are crimped on and after market pumps use screw type clamps like in picture. When I pulled my pump and saw after market clamp I knew it had been changed and failed early so I bought a bosch pump. You can pick one up on amazon or rock auto for about 68.00 vs. 130.00 at napa and will have peace of mind with good pump.
