Starts then stalls
I think I posted this in the wrong section earlier. Here’s a repeat.
2000 xj
starts runs 2 seconds then dies. Pressing the gas and increasing the RPMs does not help. Engine does rev up but still dies
replaced
IAC
MAP
TPS
swapped relays for ASD and fuel pump. Checked fuses for ASD and fuel pump.
after clearing previous codes none return.
does not appear to have a SKIM. None physically found and no key light illuminated ever.
not finding any lose grounds, battery is fairly new.
next steps are either new ecm or fuel pump. Neither are desired.
Suggestions?

Check the fuel pressure.... with a gauge.
Check the battery voltage..."fairy new"doesn't mean much.
You need to do some actual diagnostics before you throw any more parts at it

Ordered a gauge last night, will check this when it comes in.

Bought the battery about 4 months ago. But I suppose it could still have issues. Shouldnt the alternator handle the load once its started though?
Is this a new to you xj?
I have owned it since 2007

Then you'd probably know it wouldn't have a SKIM after 13 years not having one..
So:
does it turn off like you turn the key off?
or does it splutter, cough and stall when you don't rev?
What happens when you start in Neutral, or in Park and switch to neutral right after starting?

Put a pressure gauge on the fuel rail tonight. It reads 40psi when the fuel pump kicks on. Then jumps to 50 while it runs for those 2 seconds. Stays at 50 even when the jeep shuts off.
It does not sputter or run rough, it just shuts off as if I’m turning the key off. On the dash all the electrical stays on until I actually turn the key off.
starting in neutral does the same as when in park.

Taking the battery and alternator to have them tested, tomorrow. If they test fine I’m out of ideas except for the ECU but the lack of codes makes me think it’s not the ECU.
any other ideas?

Sounds like you lose the ASD if it just shuts off after 2 seconds like key off. Your fuel pressure will hold fir a while if your drain back valve is working.
You can confirm losing the ASD - but it would have to be with relay out of the PDC and set up so you can verify voltage at the pins while it is connected yet out of the PDC, if you know what I mean. See pic of my setup doing this with the starter relay when I chased an intermittent no start (which seems to be NSS related btw, now bypassed).

Battery and Alternator tested good. I guess now I need to see if I can figure out what Roler is talking about.

What were the previous codes you cleared? There are only a few things that will keep a cherokee from running. Crank sensor, Cam sensor, Coil, fuel pump. Its possible for failure from these parts without a check engine light. Was this the original issue that made you replace the iac, map, and tps?

codes cleared were NSS code. Only cleared them to see if anything new would come in. That code has been in since I replaced it years ago. Jeep starts fine in park and neutral and does not start in gear so I’m convinced it’s not the NSS.

2 weeks in the shop and they cannot figure it out yet either. They are now getting a P1686 "No SKIM BUS Message received" which is odd because there is no SKIM. This make me think it has to be something in the PCM. They want to charge me more to do more "investigating" Im just not sure what to do .There is a pull a part an hour from me that has 1 2000 on the yard, but no guarantee it has a PCM or one that would match. so either I keep paying for them to investigate, buy a new pcm and try it, or waster 2 1/2 hours of time to try a junkyard pcm. and all three of those could still not be the answer.
