Wont Start - Stator / Electrical Wiring Diagram
Just bought a 87 XJ 4x4 I6 4.0L
My 2nd Jeep (technically my 3rd, but gave that one to my ex as a present, doh!)
My first jeep lasted 450,xxx miles with original engine and transmission and just regular tune ups
I am a proud Mommy
My New baby has 76,680 original miles on it - driven by an old lady from the mountains of WV.
After I bought her And drove her home - she started and ran for a week w/o any real issues; before I decided that i had the money and time to give her a proper tune up. (before abusing her some)
Only 1 problem was she didnt want to get up to speed with out a slow start and sometimes jerk'd while maintaining 45mph...
Anyways
Gave her a Tune up :
1. 4 Tires - 205 70 R15
2. Radiator Flush / Re-Fill
3. Thermostat & Gasket4. Air Filter
5. Plugs, Wires and Cap & Rotor
6. Oil Change #1 5qt 10w-30 + 1qt ATF Oil Filter
7. Check Lifters / Springs
Adjustment or Replacement
8. Valve Cover Gasket
9. Replace Serpentine Belt
10. Check Timing Chain
Replacement or Adjustment
11. Check Rear Brakes – 1 ¾ or 2 ½
Shoes – Springs – Drums – Wheel Cylinder
12. Check Front End
Alignment – Kingpins – Ball Joints
13. Check Engine Gaskets - Exhaust Leak ?
14. Check 4x4 Linkage
15. Check Smog
Now I am finished and my baby wont start.
Anyone with any ideas? the CSP is Good and I have Spark and Voltage
I been searching for 2 days for a wiring diagram for the electrical system. More specifically for the stator. Anyone point me in the right direction?

Yes, Fuel Pressure is Good.
Thanx, I found that one as well. even a few others, including one from scribd that was "complete" but still lacking what i think i want. not necessarily what i need.

Have spark, have fuel, turns over, lifters are lifting, rods are working; oil is lubricating.
Nope only the 15 things on my list did I check/change...

are you sure you got the correct cap and rotor? There were two separate distributors used your year, a regular HEI, and an HEI/EST. The parts are very similar but NOT interchangeable.

Just wanted to say THANKS!!! to Member EZAB
that article pointed me in the right direction.
Turns out it was a combination of Bad Stator and Bad Ignition Control Module.
As I was inspecting the old ICM for cracks or w/e - i could see some faint writing, after i cleaned it up some; Turns out someone had already replaced the ICM once before, with a questionable already going bad ICM. Sigh... Go Figure. Exact quote of the side of ICM : "WEAK IxxxTER ?"
the little x's represent letters i couldnt make out.
Now that she is running again, i think with the parts changed out and that tune up, she is running better. At least im pretty sure i think i can feel the difference. At the very least it calms some of my worries about what potential crap was on the inside of her.
Turns out after all said and done, some of what i did wasnt needed. She was taken care of as good as I was told. So now i have a few extra parts i can carry in case of emergency.
She still has a few quirks, but thats a jeep and i can worry about that later on as money comes in; but for now My baby is running and I am happy again.
