I'm thinking of getting some new wheels, I have steel ones right now but I'm wondering if those are better or worse than aluminum (I'm not planning on getting rid of them if I get aluminum.

Pros/Cons/Recommendations?

 

For off road use I would only recomend steel wheels , they just dent and a hammer can fix that on the trail. Alum. breaks can't fix that ......

 

I also am all for Steal wheels for a off road rig...

Someone on the board has a rig with Mopar's slotted steel Police Intercepter wheels. Evidently they bolt right up and look bad (expletive deleted).

 

alloy rims are stronger than steel rims. plus you get the added bling and less unsprung weight.

 

alloy are also more expensive to replace

and i can bend my steel wheels back with a hammer when i dent them

can't do that when you crack an aloominum wheel

 

Yeah for offroading steel is the way to go..For just a street poser rig alloy all the way..

 

Thats funny...my "street poser" has seen quite a crapload of trail time over the course of 4 years and 3 sets of alloy rims...and i havnt broken any. Meanwhile I've watched friends replace steel wheels due to pitting, and dent destruction.

I'll be sure to stick to the street from now on to be safe.

 

Now you get me all wrong..not saying alloy is bad for trail trucks just that around here only street poser trucks run em..All the offroad guys I know run steel rims on their trail rigs.

 

nothing wrong with alloys. for every one cracked alloy rim i hear about, i hear about ~20 bent steelies.

 

Steelies FTW!! I've wheeled the crap out of them, and have yet to hurt one. I've had both, and prefer steel. HTH!!

I'm keepin my steelies and getting some new hubcaps, unless I can find some cheep cheep (decent, used type cheep) 'new' steelies.
