No, I've got to get it roadworthy first. Fix the exhaust leak and the brakes.

$40 a piece from quadratec. Got a set of 5 for $200 free ship. They're a little on the heavy side. They're about 30lbs each. Does include center caps.

Yes, I saw those before I can here to ask. A little heavy is good because you know there's thick enough metal in them. I think that about settles the question and I'm grateful to you guys. Thanks. I see you have the Quadratec shackle insert in your hitch. I have that on my WJ in case I put it in a ditch that I can't drive out of. If I can suggest a modification to it? Drill and ream the hole in the hitch piece and press in a bronze insert for the shackle to pivot on. When I actually needed mine, the tow cable pulled it straight out and now I'd need a crowbar to get it to hang down again. Road salt is a *****!

I don't think you'd need that mod I talked about in Arkansas! Tomorrow morning I get her up on a lift to get checked out. If the frame is solid, things will happen in a hurry! I went to start it today and the battery was dead. Been on the charger at a low rate all day so it should be good to go in the morning.

We don't get much snow/ice here. If we do it's gone by noon the next day. Just enough to skip work and play a little. haha. I wish it lasted longer. Not a quadratec. I belive it's a smittybilt. Can't remember, all I know it was cheap thru work, around $20-30. I just did it for a recovery point. I need to run down some front ones so I can make it legal at the superlift park. Looking at either affordable offroad bumpers or a company I found on ebay goliath4x4

They probably were! There's a big enough market for them. Personally, I'd like round windows, black lugs, and tires with the lettering in although the Coopers don't show up very well anyhow. It'll give it that "I mean business" look. The lugs that are on it now are junk. They are the ones with the thin chrome shell that comes off the first time you use an impact on them. I've got Gorilla nuts on my WJ. Am I right to assume the XJs have 1/2-20 nuts like the WJs do?

Dave, I have 4 steel wheels off a XJ, two match yours. About 150 miles away. You may have them if we can find a way to meet half way. Maybe Hoffmeister, New York 13353?

Okay, so I'm looking at Pro Comp Soft 8 Series 97 15x8 with a 4.5" backspacing. These should put in inner edge of the rim the same distance as the stock wheels from the inner fender. Am I right? There doesn't seem to be any 7" available, but the 8" would give me the option of going bigger later. Maybe I should go with 245s to begin with, although I doubt Dunn Tire would mount them. Of course I could just buy them and have them mounted by my buddy. Yeah, that sounds like the way to go.
Thanks for the offer Don, but I'd rather not stress out my WJ with the cracked piston on the highway that far.
The people I work with tell me I'm crazy to put so much money into a couple of 18 year-old vehicles. They think I should just go buy a good used car. Why? So it can wear out in a couple of years? The WJ is just now starting to show a little fringe rust. Nothing at all like you would imagine. There was a mixup about getting the XJ on the lift this morning so I have an appointment for Thursday at 8 AM. As soon as I determine she's sound, I'll drop the hammer on parts!
I just figured it out. The 245s are only about an inch taller than the 225s if my calculations are correct. At 29.4" they shouldn't be a problem I don't think.

Thing about those rims is if as you say you would have the option of going bigger later (31/10.50-15??) that 4.5" bs may not be enough. Everyone I've seen here goes with 3.75" bs on 8" rims.

2 things about that. This is going to be a backup vehicle for newspaper delivery with a little fun as well. I don't ever intend to go full bore off-road. 245s are a little over 9" wide and I can't see needing anything bigger. Going 2" taller only raises the diff by 1", so what's the point? Then I'd have to lift it. I don't care for tires that hang out past the flares either. I'm not putting you down, it's just not my style.

Don't believe I ever mentioned liking the tires out past the flares. Besides it being against WV law I get enough mud almost year around with the tires even with the flares. LOL
So what 245 tires you looking at?
