Default Steering question

i worked on my instrument cluster last night and got it working. While I was below the stearing wheel, I noticed this cylinder shaped piece was very hot. Looks like a solenoid or something. Can anyone identify this part ( black cylinder connecting to tubes) and let me know if it should be hot to the touch?

Thanks

Looks like the shift interlock solenoid. I have no idea about it being hot, but it is electrical, so maybe its getting too much voltage? Dont know. Never messed with one before.
