Steering Shaft Source? 2000 XJ Classic
Hey guys -
Question:
Anybody know where to get a new 2000 cherokee classic 4.0L steering shaft? I have play in my steering.
Background:
I have replaced almost everything steering related. Gearbox, all linkages, power steering. Had 3 shops check my work and try to find the issue...so today I took it to the dealer. They said it actually might be the “intermediate steering shaft” (basically the only damn part I haven’t replaced)... but that part has been discontinued. I’m trying to find a new one but for some weird reason all the sources seem to carry only 87-94 steering shafts.
thanks a lot!
(Pic below is because I am very proud of the XJ hahaha)

Hmmmm. I could have given you one from my wrecked 97, but then, I couldn't guarantee it was straight!
I hear the square body Chevy truck steering shaft is interchangeable. Replacing the truck shaft with the XJ shaft is a popular upgrade for square body guys. I guess the XJ version has less play in it. That would be a downgrade for you, but at least they are available.....

I just placed a similar query in the forum the other day and your post came up as a related thread. Someone provided me with a solution in my topic thread. I know it's been awhile, but if you are still looking for a later model XJ Steering Shaft, here are a couple of links to the Borgeson one that is still being manufactured:
https://www.borgeson.com/1997-2000-C...goneer-XJ.html
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/brg-000894
The description says this one fits the 1997 - 2000 Jeep Cherokees but in the Questions section on the Borgeson Website, the manufacturer says it should fit a 2001 as well.
Nice looking Jeep by the way!
