steering wheel removal
Hi guys,
Was hoping to replace my clockspring, so wanted to remove the wheel. Purchased a steering wheel puller.
First issue was that though the bolts fitted perfectly in the holes in the steering wheel, as soon as some pressure was applied, the threads came right off of one of the holes. I then drilled that through, and attached a nut to the back. Second go.. threads in the second hole came off with the bolt... Drilled that one through too, and so had the steering wheel puller attached to two bolts with nuts. (Thought third time lucky) So I applied pressure again.. this time tere was movement.. Applied tome more, before I realised the wheel is NOT coming off the splined bar, but is bending and "tearing" itself off the centre splined nut...
Of-course I removed everything and managed to bend the wheel back into an approximately straight position, but, apart from a damaged wheel, I did not get anywhere.
Would any of you have any other tips to remove this steering wheel? (Apart from the banging in the centre tip)
If not, I guess I'll just let it tear away, and somehow grind the centre splined nut off, and replace the whole lot with a new steering wheel...
Many thanks!
