stereo issues
ive had three different stereos in my jeep. im running one 12 and 2 250 watt 6x9s. if i have the radio on very loud it starts cutting out and then shuts off and back on like its drawing more power than there is or something. all three stereos did the same thing. do i need a bigger alternator, or is it the battery? i have an optima 1000 watt, should be plenty but its kind of old.

the amp is an alpine class d 700 watt. the sub actually keeps playing the bass as everything else cuts out. its only after a few min of the stereo playing loudly. also the lights on the stereo dim with the music. seems like its not getting enough power

the head unit can't put out enough power to the 6x9's, to keep up with the amp powered sub. Go to 3 channel amp. Or add a 2 channel, along with the single channel for the sub. I use a ( pyle ) 1400 watt 5 channel my self. 250 watts to the 4 corners ( 5-1/4's in front, 6x9's in the rear hatch ). And 400 watts to the 10" sub. If you only power the sub, as volume goes up. the sub will over power the head unit powered speakers. And you only hear the thumping of the sub. I like the full range of the music, not just the bass. ( I'm a white boy ) I also only use head units with 5 sets of RCA's jacks out the back. Don't use the headunit to power anything. I've never had a problem.

Interesting... I'm chasing the same thing right now in my 94, but I just have 4 speakers, no amp. The head unit just cuts off, then back on. It only does it when I start to turn it up a little.

im no expert but heres an idea.
instead of upgrading your alt or getting capacitor, try doing the big 3. its a cheap car audio trick, if you search you can find very good info but heres the jist.
stock wiring for most vehicles are crap and this is upgrading the size of those wires.

Make sure you are running a power cable that is big enough for your amp and also a ground that is the same size... people always like to go cheap with the ground and it hurts them. Also make sure you have a sturdy grounding point. The seatbelt mounts under the back seat, or where the back rest mounts in. If you are going to do something of this sort, make sure that you eliminate pinch points and that your wires are hidden well. finally make sure that you have a good inline fuse block too.. i got mine from wally world and it saved me a lot of hassle.

My rearview doesnt stay in place, and my center console is pretty beat because it rattled the screws out, the dome light is held in with bubble gum( a roadtrip fix) and had to replace 1 window but that was because of a competition

UMMM. HOW ABOUT THE DECK IS OVERHEATING? The deck is located right above the heater switch and only gets to pry around 110-130 degrees (fairinheight). The location is no good for ventilation.
I've noticed the nicer decks shut themselves down to protect. Cheaper decks just overheat and overheat and just have a shorter life-span.
My decks do it too! both are kenwoods and i'm currently running a test to see if it overheats with my current setup. I had an extra trim panel that I removed the strip above and below the head unit and it has run flawlessly for about 3 weeks.
I plan to install a piece of plastic w/ exhaust tape on it just below the deck to reflect the heat down if my problem comes back.

I never liked the idea of the deck being right above the heater controls, or above the ash tray. But i really like the idea of muffler tape. (maybe around the bottom half of the deck cage) I've always run straight off the battery, 6 ga. to the amp. With 14 ga. coming back to the dash for the head unit. (Same gage for both pos. & neg.) Also ran new 16 ga. for all speakers. (A lot of times factory is 18 ga.). While I was replacing the speakers, I put in a layer of sound damping material. I have it in the front doors & Under the headliner. (which I had to pullout to fix anyways) Still have to put it in rear doors & drivers quarter panel. Passenger quarter panel was done when I mounted the sub into that empty pocket there. I do have 3 afternoons into it. but it looks good. Like "factory". Nothing out to see, or tempt people to steal. Above all NO SPLICES any where! Th
