Default Sticky Locks

I got the older style locks (96) and especially int he cold, the locks are so hard to push to lock or unlock, and sometimes the electric locks arent strong enough to turn the back ones all the way. Ideas?

x2 that.. also use powdered graphite if they continue to stick.. you can use the tube it comes in to blow it in to the cracks..

also REPLACE YOUR BATTERY (not to yell.. just to notice).. weak batteries do this all the time in all cars..

good luck

Had the same problem. Locks were so sticky and gummed up, it would blow the fuse when you hit the button (power locks). Didn't remove them, but used brake cleaner to clean them and applied fresh white lithium grease. They work fine now and have for a month or so. The brake cleaner will get rid of all that old grease along with all the sand n stuff that's accumulated over time.

If you do this keep a rag handy to catch and/or wipe up the brake fluid that runs off. You don't want to let it sit on the paint.

I can't put my finger on any one particular area. I just cleaned and re-lubed every piece of linkage I could see. It's more than likely a combination of all that areas being gummed up. When you get the door panel off you'll be able to see all the moving pieces.

We removed all the door panels and cleaned and lubed all of them, then checked everything for proper operation before putting it all back together.

yeah i have the same problem but i see there are two different things to use to regrease them, the powdered graphite or the white lituim grease, which one is better for over all in your opinon?

I used the lithium grease because I had it on the shelf. Can't say how graphite would work, but I do use the graphite for the inside of door locks on vehicles and the house and it works great for that. I imagine that the graphite is also less likely to catch and hold dirt and grit than the grease. Might be a better way to go in that respect. It might be less likely to occurr again.

Yeah they're all like that. It pretty much fell apart when I tried to remove it on the 92. You can try to take it off carefully and reuse it, but I doubt it will stay together. You can either leave it off, cut some out from plastic drop cloth like the painters use (it comes in various thicknesses), or landscapers plastic as it's real thick.
