I'm not sure what year Jeeps went from fluid in the slip yoke to the sealed tail shaft (if you've ever dropped your drive shaft you'll know which one it is).

If it's the dry type, try a generous coat of anti-seize. Mine was doing the same thing when I got it. A most satisfying and easy fix.
My problem is in a '98 XJ with an AW-4 automatic tranny. You lost me on the wet or dry tail shaft suggestion. Sorry to have to ask, but could you explain what it was that you did to correct your "jump" problem that was so easy.

Are you saying that you somehow lubed the transmission tail shaft with anti-seize? I have a gray jar of NAPA anti-sieze with a brisstle brush inside the screw on cap, is that what you used? How did you get the anti-seize unto the part which you wanted lubed ?

Additional info is much appreciated !

If you have a 98, I'm sure you have the sealed tail shaft (dry). And yes to the gray anti-seize. It's as simple as removing the 4 8mm bolts at the differential yoke, slip the drive shaft off the tranny output shaft (I would make some marks on the DS, the yoke, and also the tranny output shaft [you can push the boot back a little]) so it all goes back in the proper position) and then lubricate the tranny output shaft and re-install the DS.

Every time I came to a stop or took off from a stop, I got this hellasicious bang. The anti-seize took care of that in a hot minute.

Hope that helps

Sounds JUST like my leaky right-rear wheel cylinder. Only a $10 part, too.
