Stock e-fans compared
Ok, I have 2 fans, different year xj's. Just ran them both off my converted power supply. The older unit (less blades, no outer blade ring) took 8 amps running. Newer one took 11.14 amps. "Face test" says new one is moving more air. Some actual "just now" info for the masses. R
Converted computer power supply to read amp draw, running load. Works great, $50 total cost. Excellent diagnostic tool. R

Yeah it may indeed move more air, stronger motor perhaps, but then again, maybe the bushings are shot and thus the fan has a lot of friction to overcome.
I have heard the fan with more blades does move more air however.
Nice experiment.

Note from DJ
My 88 4.0L has the newer curved ten blade electric fan that I installed to help my R12 AC system work more efficient with the R134a Freon. It draws 13 Amps with the engine running; so that the voltage supply was 14 Volts.
The fan was drawing air through a 3 core radiator plus the original vertical flow condenser.

I believe that when I run the same Amp draw test w/radiator & condenser in front of each fan, draw should rise (increase in flow resistance). We shall see soon. R

I am interested in seeing how adding items (condenser, rad, then shrouding) will influence Amp draw & output. Weekend data collection project!
