Default STRANGE NOISE

Hi guys, I have a problem with my 96 cherokee sport 4.0lt auto. When I drive around normally all seems fine, although there are times when I hear the engine working but it doesnt feel like its delivering power to the wheels, then next time she goes like hell. If i put my foot down flat from standstill, she makes arattling/grinding sound from front of vehicle, almost between gear shift and engine. This also happens if im on an incline, or if im towing something. Can it be that the clutch is slipping? on an auto? how do i check? or is it worse? transfer case? diff? help!!

Sounds like you might have a broken/cracked flex-plate. JMO
