Strange one- Penny in throttle linkage??
Recently, I've been having a problem with the throttle in my '96 xj sticking open. When I took my foot off the accelerator, sometimes it would stick. Usually, tapping the pedal a bit fixed the problem... It was kind of like cruise control
But it was a tad annoying, and potentially dangerous, so I decided to dig a little deeper to see if I could find a problem.
First, I checked out the cable, to make sure it wasn't fraying somewhere. It all looked fine.
Then I followed it to the throttle body- It all still looked fine. Then, I took a close look at the throttle body itself, and saw a shiny copper disc in there, kind of wedged under the return spring. It looked like a penny to me- So I grabbed it with a pair of needle nose pliers, and pulled it out. It WAS a penny!
This shows where it was- under the linkage itself, just laying there. It was shiny from wear, the linkage was rubbing against it. Taking it out fixed my problem- it appears that sometimes the penny would 'wedge' itself in between the bracket, and make the throttle stick...
My question is- Can ANYONE think of ANY reason that someone might have done this?? Is it some kind of quick fix for something? I've never heard of it, but then again I'm rather new to this... I have been amused by a few things that previous owners have done to this Jeep... And really wouldn't be surprised by anything at this point

Yeah, I don't have a CLUE why someone would do this- I am, however, embarrassed to say that she runs a LOT smoother now- I never thought to look for money in the engine compartment!
I did want to run it by the Jeep guys, though, in case it was some kind of 'fix' for a problem I don't know about. Yeah, I know- sounds weird, but you never know
Now, the Jeep officially cost me $999.99
I should probably email this one to Toyota..... A penny per car would be a cheap fix!
