Default Strange problem, No Drive, all other gears work fine

steering wheel was loose so replaced whole column with a unit from a junker, reassembled and started up fine, except Drive doesnt seem to work anymore. Hard to describe problem other than having absolutely no power, will rev and barely crawl forward. 1-2, 3, N, R, P all work fine.....

The only thing that comes to mind is you may not have it in drive all the way, linkage may need to be adjusted.

I did not touch anything other than the column and it worked fine before... problem just appeared after i put the new column in and started it.. had been driving it regularly before the swap and there we no signs of an issue

That is a weird one, sounds stupid but check the fluid level while your at it since that's easy. Linkage could be it. Otherwise maybe the transmission solenoid, cause that controls the shifts. Does it feel like your stuck in drive while taking off, and then once you reach a higher speed its fine? Kinda like its not shifting down into first?

I am not sure what year you have but is possible you did not plug something back in? have you tried to manipulate the shift lever past drive a little to see if it helps,if all you did was change out the colum and this started, you need to go back over what you did and I think you will find the problem, either trany control module or linkage, you left something disconnected.

TPS,TCU,Shift solenoids......or wiring.......1-2-3-D-N-R-P will all work when manually shifted because you are manually moving the spool in the valve body with the linkage.........if you are interested in trouble shooting it i have the write up on how to ohms test the wiring/solenoids from the TCU plug...........

the folowing needs to be done

All test need to have the Neg - lead of the voltmeter on the D7 pin in the tcu harness.

Pin C14 Key off tcu unplugged convertor clutch solenoid 11-15ohms resistance
pin C15 key off tcu unplugged shift solenoid 2 11-15 ohms resistance
pin C16 key off tcu unplugged shift solenoid 1 11-15 ohms resistance

Now we move on the the TPS sensor!!

Ground lead in pin D3 switch Volt meter to DC

Key on engine OFF voltage should be 5 volts on pin D1 this is supply to tps
key on engine off voltage input
4.5V closed throttle
.5 volts wide open

isn't the tcu located to the right of the steering column?? Maybe knocked something loose

Default Did you ever find out what the problem was?

My 2002 Ford Ranger is doing the exact same thing
