When my shift linkage pops off I can't shift into 4lo, It's like it's in neutral whenever I shift into 4lo. I've never had it not shift out of 4wd because of the linkage though, only because of being low on fluid. I have a 231 TC though.. linkages may be different.

That stinks. Linkages popping off sucks lol. The worst part about mine is it always pops off when I shift into 4lo with any kind of load on it. I only use 4lo if I'm stuck, and usually if I'm stuck I can't get under the Jeep to pop the linkage back on. It's just a lose lose situation for me haha

The t-case and trans don't share fluid, do they? (Sorry, I'm a newb.)

No, to the best of my knowledge, they do not share fluid. They use the same type of fluid though.

I've got a '98 4 litter and sometimes it sticks going from full-time to 2WD. She whines like crazy and feels like she's got a flat when you turn corners! The only way to get her out fully is to reverse after shifting from 4 to 2WD.

Dumb question...is the 242 and 231 both a selectrac Tcase(231 being the better of the two) or just the 242? Ive been noticing some with a 4wheel PT and 4wheel FT option and to me, that just screams "problems"

the 231 is "command-trac" - and has a part-time option only
the 242 is "select-trac" - and has full-time or part-time options

the 242 can be used "full time" (it automatically engages when the wheels slip)
the 231 can only be used "part time" (loose surfaces only)

what fluid do you put in the transfer case? gear oil? or is it a special fluid like transmission fluid?

Transfer case uses ATF

Look for "multi-vehicle ATF" in the store. Not ATF+4 or any of that, needs to be Dex/MercIII compatible
