Default Stuck A/C Service Valve

Hello everyone!

Well in my process of reconnecting and converting my '93 XJ 4.0 from r12 to r134a I have run into one last hurdle. I can not get my service valves to budge, they are in what I assume is the 'back' position, where the refrigerant will freely flow through the system, but I can not pull vacuum or add refrigerant to the system.

Has anyone had a similar problem? How did you fix it? Replace the valves? I am heading to the JY this morning to try and find some, I was unsuccessful in finding new service valves, is there a source for them?

Thank you,
Jay

You may need to get new A/C lines...otherwise, it sounds like maybe the valve core is stuck. You can get valve core removal tools and replace them. Not sure on the process though, but I don't think the tools are cheap.

There is no valve core in the r12 ports, that was my first thought too.

if ya scroll down a little you will see a picture of what I am talking about.

I have the high pressure service valve soaking in pb blaster, hoping and praying it loosens up.

You probably know this but will say: you are turning clockwise to attempt to open? That is, when the valves are in their normal run position, you turn the valve stem clockwise to open and charge.

I did try counter clockwise at first, and of course began to strip it so I stopped, then came on here, finding it was clockwise, but still no joy. I Have found the factory MOPAR part numbers

Suction (Low pressure) pn: 36001011
Discharge (High pressure) pn: 53001290

Both discontinued from MOPAR. Also no joy at the Junk yard today, although I did get a new center console lid for the XJ.

Well in wonderful news they both cracked loose. Just let em soak in PB blaster for the past 12 hours or so and presto! We're back in action, thank you all for the help.
