I have a stuck rear passenger side door on a 98 four door XJ.
It stuck once before approx. a year ago where I used a rubber mallet to pound near the door handle to open the door. Afterwhich I removed the door panel to lubricate.
However now it's stuck again ....
The doors locks and windows are electric.
*** I was going to ask for some suggestions other than drilling a large hole in the inner panel and/or pounding the door handle and locking mechanism.
I did pound on the door handle for a while, however what actually worked to free the door lock was to pound on manual door lock switch on the inside of the rear door. After some pounding with a steel hammer the lock eventually became unlocked.
So it appears the problem is with the door lock which is both manual and electric.
I haven't yet figured out what is actually causing the door lock to stick and how to lubricate and/or repair so it doesn't happen again.

I used the this guy's method (I believe he is a member on here so all credit goes to him) and my doors work fine now. I used some WD-40 White Lithium on the latch and the doors haven't stuck since. The problem is most likely the latch itself.

After pounding on the door lock switch from inside of the door I was eventually able to open the door.
Using a hammer on the door lock switch, careful not to damage the switch the door was able to open. Apparently the door lock becomes stuck preventing the door from opening. Pounding on the door lock switch in both directions freed up the door lock.
I'm not certain what the best cleaner and lubrication to use to prevent the door and lock from becoming stuck again.
