Stuck stud

Stuck stud
Hello Everyone,
I was trying to get to my lower radiator hose. I went to remove the front air deflector/skid plate that is partly attached just behind the front bumper. I got the 2 nuts off but the one nut is stuck. When I use my ratchet I am just turning the stud. I see the stud going down like your going to unscrew it out but then it bounces up and down. You can't get the nut out. I screwed a nut ontop of the stud and screwed it down but the nut can be attached to the stud. However I screwed the nut all the way down. So now it was nut stud nut. Any attempts to unscrew it just unscrewed the top nut. I tried using a pair or locking pliers. It just cuts into the pliars. I was thinking of buying another pair of locking pliars that are flat. If that doesnt work do you think I should just screw the bolt on and somehow use a wrench and use my breaker bar to try and break it off?
I applied a little heat, that didn't work and I always use pb blaster on all nuts before I go to loosen them. I can use some good suggestions.

If you can add another nut on top of the other nut you put on (on top of the stud) lock them two nuts together (by tightening them against eachother) and try to get the lower one off again with a breaker bar.
The top ones shouldnt loosen due to the clamping/locking effect of the two nuts which should provide a good way to hold the stud in place, i would just hold the bottom nut on the top of the stud, instead of loosening it should tighten against the other nut even more.
Hope that makes some sense to you!

Try using 2 nuts on the top locked together with 2 wrenches. Then using a wrench on the lower of those 2 nuts, try loosening the nut on the bottom of the skid-plate with a ratchet or wrench.
The 2-nuts locked together method is how they get head studs, or other stuck studs, out. Works for me.

The double bolt method on the stud worked. I got those nuts off. I went out and picked up a 10" 1/2 extension. Unfortunately I got one side of the skid plate down. The other bolt broke with it 3/4 the way in. Just more work. Since I took down the water barrier at the bottom. I cleaned off the whole lower half of the engine from road grim and from oil when I had the valve cover leaking for about a year. It looks alot better and hopefully it will help prolong the life of the jeep.
