Default stupid locker?s

I'm planning on doing lunch box lockers in my XJ here soonish. I have a 27 spline 8.25 and a HP30.

1, dana 30 lockers are cheep any down sides to locking the front first.
2. worth it to lock the 27spline or should i do a 29 spline upgrade (new carrier gears and locker at once)

1. No, you turn with the front, added stress on the shafts and u-joints
2. I would suggest the 29 Spline upgrade, yes

I have in my D30 and it works great but more prone to carnage as I have learned from experiance.

If your going to upgrade the 8.25 to 29 spline and change the gears, might as well do a Ford 8.8 swap,

don't have to worry about the locker breaking it and you get better braking power (95+ discs)

What are you planning on putting in a Cherokee that you think a 8.8 is to small to run? They are rated for up to 40" tires, and that is with stock axles!

I would love to hear what you plan on running that will require bigger than an 8.8.

More work to make an 8.8 fit and then add changing the gears and buying a locker for it too. I have the 29 spline 8.25 with 33's, 4.56's and an Aussie and I have had no problems with carnage. I also did the d35 disc swap which is SUPER easy.

nothing under this cherokee as its not worth the effort to swap axles. also while strong 8.8s are way too narrow for my taste. I want to build a buggy on tons.

OK, sorry I thought this was for your Cherokee. Oh by the way 8.8s come in all different widths. Like that is the rear differential in many Ford F150s which is a full width, full size differential.

As far as the Chrysler 8.25 you'll need to change the carrier to go to the 29 spline shafts so either go to a full locker or find one in a JY. Randy's R&P has 1541H 29 spline shafts for 70 something each. Which would make your 8.25 about 80% stronger than your 27 spline stock axle.

Good Luck

i want lockers in this so I can keep wheeling and do harder stuff I just know I'm running into the limits of this body and really don't want to do a body swap for another wheeling rig as most of the parts on this one will end up on my GF 96s while I go stupid with a welder on something
