Default Stupid question

I know this might be a dumb question.

Is there a way to replace the clutch slave without dropping the trans??

Not if he needs to drop the trans...

You're going to have to 'drop' the trans. Last time I did it I left everything on jacks and just slid it back far enough to replace the slave/throwout bearing.

Two points of advice I have are:

1) you will need a female torx set as one of the top bolts are male torx. It's stupid and a pain in the ***, but it's there.

2) Make sure the new unit has o-rings where the lines connect. The first time I did this job it was getting late and a bit dark and I didn't realize the new unit came with no o-rings. I had the pleasure of doing it twice that day.
