1999 cherokee

so i have noticed that my 1999 xj sounds like it wnts to die when i come to a compleat stop. I have wached the rpm when coming to a stop and they go passed 1000 realy fast then go back to 1000. When it dropes it feels like its going to shut off. anothe thing i have noticed is that the amp guage kinda dances back and forth.I have sanded the battery terminals and battery terminals and it whent away for a while i get alot of whithe dust on built up on the positave terminal could a bad battery cable be causing this or maybe a bad alternator please help i am about to go out back and SHOOT MY XJ!!! ita a1999 xj 4.0

have you had the battery checked? I have seen where a battery with terminals getting crappy is a sign of going bad. have auto zone(parts, advanced) whatever check it. They can also test the alternator if the battery is good.

My 99 did the same thing. I replaced the alternator and it runs fine now.
