We've got 2 responses here in favor of the ZJ fan clutch.......do they freewheel at normal temp, or r they noisy/roar all the time? The reason why I ask is, we tried a HD fan clutch (not the ZJ clutch) and removed it promptly due to constant roar.

The ZJ clutch isn't constant, but it's noticeable.

Like "most of the time" noticeable?

Too noticeable for me in my Comanche Pioneer that's otherwise almost stock.

Sooo...
I guess I'll take a shot at whatever flies off the shelf at Advance Auto then. Especially since I found out my cracked head replacement came from them. Maybe call it the "Advance Auto Special", eh?

If you haven't had any problems up until this fan clutch went bad, a stock replacement may be fine.

Do you still have the hd one? Would you sell it? If so pm me. Thread jack over.

Negative, sorry, I'd give it to u but the HD clutch is back on the ZZ4 in the 9C1. It was just an experiment on the XJ that proved way too noisy. Clutches must be matched to fan diameter, # of blades, blade pitch, etc. in order to perform as designed.....silent when not needed and moving major air when needed.

3 guesses and the 1st 2 don't count which is the HD clutch and which is the XJ clutch.
