Default Is this supposed to be a hole or solid?

Hi all. Basically below the rear light units, I had to do a lot of welding on the cargo floor so it wouldn't suprise me if it is a rot hole.

Thanks

No, that hole should not be there. My 97 is rot free back there, and there is no hole.

I didn't think there should be but both side have rusted so well, there is no trace of what should be there. The surrounding metal is all fine. Strange.

Thanks for confirming.

Yeah, you're going to want to fix that soon. Water gets thrown off the rear tires and can short out the wiring in that area. Ask me how I know!

How'd you know?

The reason I've found it is I'm trying to trace why my cargo carpet is getting wet. Last december I welded up the floor and sealed it. Currently the wet patch is not near that hole though. It's certainly now on the list do sort though. I'll also be cleaning up my wiring near it soon anyway, my tow buzzer is extremely annoying, the buzzer has become insecure inside the unit so it changes it's tone constantly.

Dont forget rodents. Mice and other critters climb up the tire and onto the leaves. And into the floor they go. Double whammy.

Recently had mine repaired back there. Nothing major but wanted to head it off at the pass. Now I need just to seal off the fill tube cover to keep out whatever. I believe that's where the trouble starts.

That's exactly where my water was getting in as well. I ended up putting silicone around the seams under the fuel filler door. That seems to keep the water out now.

Just check it periodically though. I siliconed mine years back when I did a cut and fold but at some point it evidently started to let water in. My fault for sure.
