Default Surging on 96 4.0l

Developed a surging issue about a week ago. Replaced fuel filter, injectors, pump, plugs, wires, cap and coil. Surging got worse as now it happens on the road and runs sluggish on highway. Don’t see any cracks in the manifolds, no jump in rpm when I sprayed carb cleaner on any hoses. Did notice it’s coughing up carbon and the O2 sensor was smoking a bit. Need solution by Friday!

A cat code came up last year and I put some of that cat cleaner in. Just reset the computer and did a 60 mile run. Was fine till I restarted the car. Throwing a P0171(too lean) and P0172(too rich). Smells like a kart.

A smoking sensor that's involved with fuel trim, which is now out of wack....

Disconnect the sensor...goes to a preset value, if surging stops replace the front o2 sensor. It could be the cracked manifold but almost every one ever made is cracked and not every one has issues

Changed both O2 sensors, test drove and runs great again. Thanks!
