suspension clunk??

suspension clunk??
Ok so if I go over a bump I hear liek a clunk. Not sure what it is.. Also noticed last night when I was doing a turn left at an intersection I heard the same sort of clunk.
Could the shocks be shot or something in the steering bad? Steers fine really no play in wheel. Just wierd.

ok will do hoping it is something simple. Don't think anything is worn out just think loose. Was thinking shock was shot but don't think so did the push on the hood test and it is fine bounces back up nicely

it wouldnt hurt greasing the heck out of your front end also if you haven't in a while, especially your front DS's slip. Mine had a slight knock in its front end also and after I got everything lubed up it faded away.

shack the shocks themselves right where the bar goes into the tube. if its loose the seal went bad. could be a front u-joint. could be something with your lower control arm/s, like the bushing.

This is identical to my post over on Jeepforum. I bought my xj last year and had a clunk over bumps or when turning. Everything said here was also suggested over on JF so i checked...and checked...and checked. Nothing was worn out. I decided to check what was NOT mentioned and voila, there it was. The sway bar bushings where the main bar connects to the frame were worn and the bar would hit the bracket holding it on.
Worth a check. You just bend over and peek under and up.

Ok so how can you tell if the sway bar bushings are worn? or just replace and hope it works. Also did you repair it or have a mechanic and if mechanic how much it cost you

look at the bushings. the should be tight around the bar without any gaps. its pretty easy to tell if they are worn or not. as for repairing it, its a 20 min fix. just gotta remove four little bolts and the bar drops down so you can put the new bushings in. its as simple as legos
(im referring to the bushings on the bar that are under the radiator, not the bushings next to your coil springs)
Look at #3. That's the main sway bar. There's a bushing on the left and right of it that attach to the frame. Those are the bushings you should check, and it wouldn't hurt to check the other sway bar bushings next to the coil spring (#4).
If you are unsure then snap some pictures of the bushings and we can tell you if they are bad or not.
