We use winch rope much like this at work on our line trucks for lifting poles, transformers, and other equipment. We use 7/8 and 1 inch synthetic winch lines and 5/16 synthetic on our bucket truck jib winches. Both are very reliable and and is the norm for electric utility work where high voltage contact is a possibility. I have seen the synthetic used on truck winches with great success, but make sure that your fairlead is designed for synthetic, and that you always, always, let me reiterate, always use a strap and clevis setup at your attachment point that will handle the load. Sharp edges and abrasion against tree trunks, tow hooks, and frame parts make a quick death to your synthetic winch line. Our safety rules dont allow us to wrap the winch line with an abrasion cover around any object to be lifted or pulled. With this in mind, you should enjoy the synthetic much more than steel. One other thing, always keep your synthetic as clean as possible. If it gets muddy, wash it afterwards and allow it to dry before rolling it back up when you get back to the barn. Good Luck!!
