Default T-case knock

So lately I've been hearing a sort of knocking or grinding sound coming from the front of my transfer case (it sounds like the front but not entirely sure)

I do have a 96 xj lifted 4.5" with no SYE but did do a tcase drop on it.

When I sit in park or hold the brake it make like a sort of grinding or knocking sound. It doesn't sound very good whatever it is.

When I move at idle speed it is very smooth and quiet. Then I go a little faster and I hear it again.

I don't hear it much driving at faster speeds but I guess it's just not loud enough. I do feel it though through the floor by my feet.

Any ideas?

Well, since you said you've got a T-Case drop, we can probably rule out exhaust knocking against the crossmember, unless it actually is. Should be able to easily see if it's close enough to hit or not. My bet's on not....Does it seem to be RPM based, like in a specific rev band? 1750-2000RPM for example like mine? I know mine is the exhaust and x-member, though.

If when sitting in Park there's no movement in the TC because there's no movement from the transmission output shaft.

Are you sure this is a valid statement?

Could the noise be coming from futher forward, like in the bellhousing?

That is a possibility I did not think of. I have actually been having trouble starting it lately
