I did the same thing but decided I liked the smoked rather than yellow/orange. Before and after... obviously.

I think you can heat the lights and the color will fade. Maybe use like a heat gun and heat the orange part so it will fade some and then paint it read. Then you may not have a orange color that will shine through. You have to find a way to not heat the read as much and melt the lens. Or maybe see if you can fade it all and when you paint it red it will match perfect. I know some honda guys do it to there rear lights. I dont know if it will work on a jeep light though.
