Default Tailpipe Replacement

My jeep sounded funny today after class, and sure enough, the last foot of my tailpipe was sawed off. It was in great condition before, and you can easily see the shine where it was cut off, right behind the exhaust hanger. Amazing what will amuse my fellow college students.

Anyways, I've never worked with exhaust before. What tools are required/recommended to replace the tailpipe? Also... I found some on quadratec, but none for a 1996. Does anyone know which ones are interchangeable, or if not, any place that might sell them really cheap? Thanks a bunch, I'm hoping to fix this before the cold weather rolls in up here.

i agree with huntingman, especially if youre not familiar with them they can be a pain. im curious, do any of your fellow college buddies drive jeeps? if so i recommend payback, zipties on driveshaft will keep them worrying about the "new noise"..

sounds to me he had a fancy "tip" that someone else wanted... cut it off to weld it on theres... this happened alot in Oceana VA (VA beach) when i was stationed there for alittle while... folks fancy import mufflers would go bye bye while on a late night at the clubs...

Alright, I hate to bring it to a shop, but if its cheap, I guess I'll go for it. Na, there don't seem to be too many jeeps out this way. And no tips on it either, just the stock pipe (probably replaced at some point, based on the good condition it was in). Thanks for the advice.

Not many jeep drivers around, but I'll have to try that on someone with a pickup.

should cut it in front of a hanger but as close to the engine as possible... that way all they gotta do is weld it back together without adding pipe... and is loud as crap!
