Have you tried to adjust the t-case linkage?
(i've need told with my transfer case i can shift into 4hi in drive at nomore than 10mph) <<<<<<<False,,,
You can shift into 4wheel drive at any legal speed.
Cruiser has done it at 80mph..
Ive done it at 70mph for science...lol

The linkage is located on the drivers side of the transmission.

Yup. Shift on the fly is great. I've done it at 65. No need to go to neutral first at all. Just release accelerator shift and carry on. Does sound like linkage at this point

Linkage needs to be adjusted. Had identical issue about 3 months ago on my 01 after going from crossmember spacers and stock crossmember to Rusty's 1 inch drop crossmember.

I know when your in the heat of the moment "stuck" sometimes you might think your in N, bit could actually be in D. Just saying it happened to me a time or two in the past. The reason I say that is you said if you pushed down on the lever it would stop, so maybe you were not quite engaged. Just a thought.. Can you replicate it all the time?
