Default Temp gquge reading high

I've seen others have similar problems and but haven't seen a solution in previous threads. The 4.0L in my 94 XJ Country had a trans replacement a while back. Afterward, the gauge temp gauge wouldn't read. Found that the single wire had pulled out of the sending unit. Tried reinstalling wire but ended up replacing sending unit with a duralast unit with the threaded post and installed a round connector on the wire (stock wire harness clip was broken). Now the gauge has a reading from the sending unit but the gauge reads very high and pegs at operating temp. Does anyone know how I can solve this problem?

Going off the scale usually means, in my experience anyway, either the sensor or the connection is bad.
if you unplug it and get the same result, that's the issue.
redo your splice job and see what you have.
look up how to check your sender with a multimeter and see what you have

I will check it with a multimeter. I dont think its bad because as the engine is warming up, the gauge changes reading. I was wondering if the problem is that it has a different resistance range than the previous one

I have a aftermarket temp sender in my 96 xj. It reads high. I confirmed this by using my scan tool that shows I am at normal temps.

It’s another case of bad aftermarket quality. I think mine is a bwd brand.

I plan to see if I can get a factory part.

Such a repeating record with a lot of the sensors on our old jeeps... the aftermarket ones are so hit or miss... it's like there's ZERO quality control at any of these manufacturers.... hmm...

For my 96 Mopar sensors can still be purchased on Amazon. After I broke the Mopar sensor installing it, I got a NAPA sensor that has worked well.

Does anyone know where I can find a replacement clip for the OEM sending unit on the wiring harness side for my 94?

They are not hard to find at all at a chunk yard, if you don't want to go that route though Ralph can easily find you one.
