The little black bubble is part of the security system. If you watch it in complete darkness, You see it blinking when locked. Don't really need a remote, There nice to have. But usually about $100, or better. If you ever kill the battery. And jump it, Or use a charger. the first thing to activate is the security system. You need to turn the key in the door, Lock, Unlock. To de-activate it. (Found out the hard way, Had to quickly look it up in the owners manual. With it honking in the drive way for me) As for the temp/ comp module, on it's way of burning out. They have replacement ones at Mopar parts stores, But for mine 1991 it's a $695. I just about s**t. It took me over a yr. to find one on E-Bay. Especially under $100. In 1993 they changed to the model you have. (93-96') I believe. Your's is more common, and a little cheaper. So check with local Junkyards, or E-Bay. Was also used in other Mopar cars of that year, Like Town & Country vans, Dynasty, ETC. Good luck to you. People know what these overhead consoles are worth, as you will see. ( even if you only need the module out it.)

As far as the temp sensor goes.... I would see if the problem is just the sensor itself. It is located behind your front bumper. It sounds to me like either the sensor is bad, or you wires for the sensor are shorting/grounding out to give you a 0 reading. The sensor itself is not too expensive.

Thanks.

Its called an "Ambient Temperature Sensor". Throw that in Google images (along with "Cherokee") and you can see what it looks like and where it is located (behind the front bumper).

Center overhead console MPG not working right
I have a weird problem but not sure how to approach a fix. The center console in my 93 GC shows 9.3 mpg average all the time...the other indicators all seem to work correctly. Is this an indicator that the whole device needs replacing or is there some sort of sensor that might be out? The mpg real time indicator seems to be working so I am thinking the calculator in the device is hosed...any ideas? Also the cruise control does not work....it used to but it acts as if dead. Anyone know where the relay for that is located? I used to hear it click when the cruise control was turned on but now nothing and I do not find any fuse for this as well.
