Yeah mine blew up one day while driving, never realized it was plastic till I was looking at it on the side of the road. Those heat cycles really bake them. I put all new hoses on, can I just pull that valve and use copper pipe or barbed brass connectors?

Just use some metal pipe. Good to go.

Another option you can do is take a file to the machined surface of your thermostat housing and take care of any imperfections. I have a 90 XJ and when I was at a junk yard I got a thermostat housing from a 92. I did this so I could use the threaded area for the temp control as a burping point. Anyways, before I put it on I took a metal file and brushed it over the mounting surface until I saw the file hitting all areas of the machined surface. Its an option you can do without just buying parts. Along with that I used RTV on both sides of the gasket. Just a little goes a long way.

Good Luck!

But honestly, I have never been this excited about working on a project. When I got my first truck I had no tools and no resources. Now that my son is fixin to turn 16 and I have all these resources at my fingertips. Im excited and so is he.
