Also, the reason your oil looked thin but not milky is because the detergent packages in modern oils have gotten really, really good. The detergent is there to bond to condensation in the engine so that it can't do as much damage before the engine comes up to operating temp and burns it off. It's so good now, though, that it bonds enough moisture that the water doesn't emulsify in the oil and turn milky like it did 30 years ago. At the level of a head crack it's still doing damage to the bearings. I was running Mobil 1 in mine when the head cracked, and mine never turned milky at all.
