Default Thing under the rear seat ?

Checking under the rear seat to see if jack etc... was there and under the passenger side of the rear seat base ( UK - RHD vehicle ) is a black box with wires coming out of it - just wondering what it does ???

This just came up in a thread a couple months ago. I think it's part of the ABS system. Some type of equalization/monitoring device.

The thing you are referring to is the AMP for the speakers. On older model XJ's the Bendix 9 ABS system had the ABS ECU mounted under the rear seat. This should not be the case with your XJ. Attached is a pic of the AMP from my FSM.

No ABS in my 94 country also,

No black box under my seats, but its probably the most common place for an amp... but im sure you guys could figure out what an amp is.

Sounds like the factory amp to me as well. I have one under my seat on the driver side (lhd).

In my '91 box is under rear driver side. It is a Siemens electrical box for ABS.

Cut the wires and see what doesn't work (last choice).
