Thinking of buying a 98 cherokee
I'm going to be in Wisconsin for the summer and am in the market for a car with some utility to throw camping gear ect in and go and have fun with. I've always liked cherokees and have a budget of 3000. I found a 1998 Cherokee with 126000 miles on it with a clean interior/exterior and a strong motor. The problems, and I'm not trying to pick apart a 12 year old truck.....
1. front and rear axels leak
2. 4x4 transfer case leak
3. valve cover gasked leak
4. needs new tires.
I'm not a mechanic but I have the time right now and would like to learn something about cars. 3 and 4 I'm not worried about but I'm worried about 1 and 2. I have a buddy who's a farmer and he's offered me to bring it over for a weekend and fix it up. I just thought I'd ask you guys for your opinion. No rust by the way which is unusual for a Wisconsin car. I'm thinking of offering 2200 for it which is blue book for fair condition. Any thoughts? I know Cherokee's are pretty reliable but has anyone had any experience with these things? Also what are some other things that I should look out for on Cherokee's? Thanks in advance

for the axles you are gonna wanna change the oil thats in them anyways, so that will get fixed when you do that, and the t case im not to sure on but you might have to pull it and split it depending on where it is leaking from, the other two are cake walks
