thud when stopping, front driveshaft play
I have a 01 cherokee and what is happening is when i come to stop there is a thud just before i completely stop. The thud sounds like its coming from the transfer case area.
I checked the transmission mount for play by trying to pry the tc away from the transmission mount (which is what my haynes manual said to do) and it was nice and tight. The transmission mount is also tight to the crossmember.
I did notice that with the car in 2wd and sitting on the ground i could twist the front drive shaft about 1/4 to 1/2 inch each way, Also if i push up and down on the shaft the slip yoke in the middle of the shaft wobbles.
Is this driveshaft movement normal? and if not is it possible that it could be my problem?

Just wondering if you got any feed back from people on this or found a solution. My 2000 Sport seems to have the same problem, when coming to a stop about 40% of the time there is a loud thud. Haven't had a chance to look at the trany mounts but have looked at motor mounts and they seem nice and new.
