Default Thunking from the engine

After driving my 1990 2.5 cherokee long enough to get up to operating temp for a while, when i come to a stop i can hear a thunk noise coming from the engine, and it usually only happens a couple intermittent times and then goes away. It's a pretty scary noise, you can feel it. I have no idea what it could be yet, the engine idles fairly well and has never died on me. Any experiences with this?

Check the engine mounts for cracked rubber or broken welds.

x2 on the engine mounts, and if they engine mounts are bad i would go ahead and check the tranny mount as well.

Bad engine and tranny mounts cause the exhaust to vibrate on the trans crossmember. I have this annoyance still with new motor mounts. Trans mount is still shot.

You can feel it in the floorboard. It's very misleading. I thought the engine was making noise.

Would those issues also contribute to the occasional intermittent ticking i hear as well?

not positive but i bet the ticking is your lifters, very very common for jeeps to have lifter ticking
