Default Ticking pulley for several minutes after Jeep is started.

Whenever I start my xj, I hear a ticking noise which sounds like a bad pulley for several minutes. After a while of driving the noise stops but obviously something isn't right. How do I diagnose a bad pulley? Any other ideas as to what it can be?

Thank you

Are you sure it isn't lifter tick? That is common on 4.0s and it usually goes away after the engine warms up.

How do I test this? And is there any way to fix it?

You can tell by sound watch some youtube videos on jeep 4.0 lifter noise. Most 4.0s make have lifter tick and it is more trouble to fix than it is worth. People have tried different oils and additives that claimed to have quieted it down some. It isn't that big of an issue other than the noise.

To test if its a pulley or belt start it up and with it ticking just spray a little wd40 or any spray oil just a little oil will make it go away . the belt can also can be a little loose .
