Default Ticking under the valve cover.

I recently rebuilt my intake on my 92 xj laredo and put in an aftermarket manifold with new exhaust. My jeep runs amazingly well right now. It is a lot quieter than before, which has allowed me to hear and feel other problems with the car lol.

That being said I can hear a loud ticking sound coming from under the valve cover. It gets really loud above 3000rpm. I figured it's a loose rocker? My question is how do I fix it. Do I take the cover off and just torque things to factory or?

It's gonna sound a lot better accelerating to freeway speed once I fix that ticking. I searched it and I keep hitting a dead end.

Not sure what u mean by "rebuilt my intake"? The ticking could be an exhaust leak somewhere at the aftermarket exhaust manifold.

The lifters are known for sticking, so that could be an issue. But, usually "ticking" is an exhaust leak.
You can always pull the VC and see if there is anything loose.

Rebuilt meaning cleaned and new injectors. It is NOTHING TO DO WITH EXHAUST, NOTHING, that's just stupid. I clearly said it is under the valve cover and I just want someone WHO HAS FIXED IT to help me out and tell me what to do. Not people who are just throwing **** out there because they have nothing to do than post a useless reply on the internet...

How do I adjust the lifters so they don't tap is my question

Really? You know the exhaust manifold is "under" the valve cover? Its probably a lifter. My jeep has a tick too. Does it tick faster when accelerating?

Just look into it some more. Take valve cover off and look around. See if anything is loose. If u think its a valve possibly a sticky valve or lifter then maybe try an oil change with some richer oil and some mineral oil. I heard that cleans it up a bit. Take the free and easy steps first. Look for the source. Check exhaust manifold and check the valve cover. Maybe vacuum leak?

The XJ lifters are not adjustable....they are hydraulic (self adjusting). I guess u could say the lifters are under the valve cover since they are low in the block, passenger side, but just about everything is below (under the valve cover), no? The head must be removed to access the lifters. The rocker arm bridges (under/below the valve cover) should be torqued to 21 lb.ft., I believe.

I just want to make it clear to everyone, It is not an exhaust issue. Please shut up about the exhaust.

The exhaust DID tick before I put in a new exhaust manifold. That sound is gone.

Yes it does speed up with increased rpms. And at 3000rpm you can hear it loud and clear. It is coming from under/INSIDE the valve cover. Has anybody had this problem AND fixed it? I don't have a "Fu*# it" attitude about working on this car.

I know it's an old car and it makes noises but I've quieted this thing down a lot and it sounds unhealthy when you rev it. So I'm going to fix it. Just need someone to tell me what to do.

If you're so sure about what the problem is and everyone here doesn't know anything then why are you even here asking? Grab a wrench and fix it yourself and shut up.
