Default Time for a new motor..

Well I am pretty bummed out on this Monday. Searching for the cause of my cylinder 1 misfire code recently, ignition and fuel sides checked out, so today I ran a compression test. 150 PSI across the board except for cylinder 1 at 105. I poured some oil into the cylinder and cranked it again, jumped to ~145 PSI. So I'm thinking either cracked piston rings, or scorched cylinder wall. The motor has 211k on the clock, I've been driving it since 167k and don't remember it ever overheating. Considering my options at this point, possibly buying a reman'd long block and swapping it at the shop on a weekend

This is where I got mine. Best warranty and never needed it. 160,000+ miles and still strong!

It shouldn’t be running THAT bad with 105 on cylinder 1, is it? Might have a lot of life in it CEL adds character lol

I've been driving my 2000 WJ 4.0L for about 25K miles with a cracked piston skirt, at least that's what I think it is. Light piston slap on cold startup and a light knock under a heavy load. #5 is using a little more oil than normal, compression is low in that cylinder, and the plug will load up and foul if idled too long. It's got 248K miles on it and still pulls strong at speed, although I don't wail on it anymore! I bought a 2000 XJ as a backup for when I take the WJ off the road for the engine change. I'm still working the bugs out of the XJ. I've got some fried electrics in the tail light harnesses. Salt water entering thru the rusted wheelwell.

If you can open up your engine and see what going on in there , you mite be able to fix it for cheap . did you check the valve springs ?
