^This, as long as it was just large chunks of metal from the chain/gears it should have never made it past the pick-up screen on the oil pump. If the oil is full of fine shavings then you may have issues (though if it wasn't run for long with the shavings you may still be ok, the oil filter will pick these up but it will quickly clog up and once it goes into bypass mode that's when damage will occur).

Best bet is to make sure the cam isn't frozen then replace the chain, there is a very good likelyhood it was just a defective chain if it failed that soon. The 4.0L I6 is a non-interference engine so bent valves shouldn't be an issue.

Even if you don't have shavings in the oil I'd probably do a couple "short" (only a few hundred miles) oil/filter changes to make sure to clean out any carp that may have come from the failed chain.

Thank you best help yet, if i get it up and running ill do this for sure, the engine cut out as soon as the timing chain snapped so i dont think much metal made it anywhere but the pan, although short oil changes is probably a good bet.

I thought it was sulfates in the Chinese drywall which off-gassed and caused corrosion of wiring, plumping, etc.

Just Googled and found out it's actually both + mercury. Then as Cruiser says lead paint in kids toys. Really racking up the points ain't they? Trouble is their racking up coin to.

Saw a video last yr taken in China and smuggled out of their fish "farms". You don't want to know and you sure don't to be eating it.

Pulled the cover off today and the crank and cam seemed fine wasnt locked up at all turned very smoothely. Think it was just a defective chain?

May be able to tell by looking at it. Were the gears in line with each other?

it's all good, I believe the US industries can send chicken to China now to have it "processed" and send it back and still label it US borne.

kgm,
"it's all good, I believe the US industries can send chicken to China now to have it "processed" and send it back and still label it US borne."

I've lived and worked around chicken/turkey houses and the processing plant for almost 40yrs in this country. I don't eat it.

Yeah I only eat meat these days when its fancy homegrown stuff. The ol $2 a pound feet-meat isn't really consumable.
